Reaching The Final Is Sundowns Target – Kermit Erasmus

Mamelodi Sundowns are gearing up for the second leg of their MTN8 semi-final that will be played this afternoon as they welcome Lamontville Golden Arrows to their territory.

Masandawana will be faced with a stubborn Arrows side for the second time this season, having met in the first round of the thrilling competition last month at the Sugar Ray Xulu stadium, in a game that ended 1-1. Abafana Bes’thende currently occupy 8th place after five games played in the league, meanwhile Bafana Ba Style sit at the top of the log.

Striker Kermit Erasmus has started the last 4 games and has expressed the team’s desire to reach the final stages of the competition to go one step closer to the trophy that has eluded The Brazilians.

“Reaching the final is the target for the MTN8, it’s been a long time since the club has played in the final of the MTN8 and it’s our aim to achieve that, hopefully we can do that on Tuesday and focus on the next step in winning the final. First it’s making sure that we get to the finals on Tuesday, that’s where all our focus and energy is in making sure that we prepare well and sharpen our skills.”

Masandawana had to show great fight in the first leg, coming from a goal down to secure a 1-1 draw with new striker Pavol Safranko scoring his first for his new club. ‘Romeo’ spoke about how the team are planning on ensuring a positive result in the second leg:

“The first game against Arrows due to the weather conditions was very tricky, but it’s part of football, it comes with the conditions and you’ve just got to adapt and focus yourself in trying to do your best for the team. We have to give it our best, stick to the game plan and our identity in how we play as a club. [We have to] score with the chances that we create because we will definitely create the chances.”

Mamelodi Sundowns clash with Golden Arrows in the MTN8 Cup on Tuesday, 28 September at Lucas Moripe Stadium, kick off is at 18h00. The game will be broadcast live on SuperSport Channel 202.
