It has been reported that Zambia international striker Justin Shonga is currently undergoing trials with Egyptian Premier League outfit Ismaily.
Shonga rose to prominence in 2017 when he moved from his home country of Zambia, where he plied his trade for Nkwazi FC, to sign for Orlando Pirates.
While he didn’t lift any silverware with the Pirates, he still managed to score 16 goals and provide 16 assists in 77 appearances. While also guiding them to back-to-back second-place finishes in the league.
Then in October of 2020, he moved to South Africa’s Marumo Gallants FC, where he stayed for just three months before signing a six-month contract with Cape Town City FC.
After his contract ended with Cape Town last July, Shonga became a free agent and might soon play in the Egyptian Premier League.
According to several local reports, Shonga is currently undergoing a trial period at Ismaily, in their Alexandria training camp.
The Yellows, who already signed goalkeeper Ahmed Adel and right back Essam Sobhi, are in dire need of a new striker following the departure of Fakhreddine Ben Youssef to Pyramids FC.
It was previously reported that Shonga was close to moving to Egypt last year, when he started negotiations with Egyptian champions Zamalek.
The 24-year-old also has 19 caps for Zambia, during which he six goals, with his last appearance coming in November of last year. © Kingfut
