Abdel Nader becomes first Egyptian to reach NBA finals

Egyptian-American basketball player, Abdel Nader, has signed a new two-year contract with NBA side Phoenix Suns.

In 2020 Nader was traded to the Phoenix Suns with Chris Paul from Oklahoma City Thunder, in a trade that saw Kelly Oubre Jr., Ricky Rubio, Ty Jerome, and Jane Lecque go the other way as well as a protected 2022 first-round pick.

The 27-year-old has since played just 24 games during the 2020-2021 season after sustaining a long-term knee injury.

After his recovery, Nader appeared in the Conference final against the LA Clippers and helped the Suns reach the NBA finals, where they faced, and eventually lost, against the Milwaukee Bucks.

As their own free agent, the Suns did not lose any spending flexibility to re-sign Nader who has now signed a two-year, $4.2 million contract.

At 6’7” and 220 pounds, the Alexandria-born is known for his strong shooting ability (42% on threes), can create free throws, and has a strong defensive work rate.
