With sustainability at its heart, Nike unveil the 2021/22 Barcelona home kit, which brings a fresh perspective to Blaugrana identity, featuring a design with a reimagined stripe layout and material made of 100 percent recycled polyester fabric.
Taking a radical new approach to the Catalan giants’ identity, the new Barcelona home shirt from Nike features a design with a reimagined stripe layout inspired by the club’s crest. The new design takes the elements that make up the crest and infuses them with the Blaugrana colours. The front of the shirt features the silhouette of Saint George’s cross, patron saint of Barcelona and la Senyera, the Catalan flag fused with recognisable vertical stripes.
The club shorts are half blue and half garnet and pair with matching striped socks, while pale ivory accents are incorporated into the Swoosh and the kit’s lettering. The back of the neck is inspired by the club’s Senyera heritage, modified from red stripes over a yellow base. Definitely going to be one that splits opinion, just like the colours on the shorts, but it’s always good to see an attempt to break away from the norm. Could be a grower, this.
Midfielder Frenkie De Jong said of the new kit, “The fans have taken me as their own since I joined and it’s amazing to see a jersey which captures the identity and values of such a wonderful club.”
